Replacement of Missing Teeth

Replacement of missing teeth can be accomplished by three different modes of treatment. They are:

  1. Implant Dentistry
  2. Fixed Bridges
  3. Removable bridges (removable partial dentures and complete dentures)

The best treatment depends on the number, placement and condition of the remaining teeth. Other important factors are level of patient commitment, time commitment and cost. Dr. Foreman will discuss all of these aspects with you to help you arrive at the replacement option that is best for you. All three of these options will restore function and stabilize the bite in an esthetically pleasing way.

Implant Dentistry

Dental implants serve as the base for many types of tooth replacement. Implants can replace one tooth or several missing teeth with crowns or bridges that are fixed in place. For replacement of many teeth or all of the teeth, implants can support very secure removable dentures or fixed bridges if the conditions in the mouth allow it. Implants allow excellent esthetic and functional replacements of missing teeth.

Fixed Bridges

Fixed bridges are natural-looking tooth replacements which help maintain facial structure, reduce stress on the jaw and fill in the gaps caused by missing teeth. These bridges are cemented on the existing teeth and do not come out.

Removable Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures replace teeth lost due to decay, periodontal disease or injury. They replace the missing teeth, utilizing the remaining teeth to support and secure the removable partial denture. Removable partial dentures are a functional, esthetic and cost-effective means of tooth replacement. They can be removed to clean the denture or the remaining natural teeth.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures replace teeth when all upper and/or lower teeth are missing. They restore the function of eating, restore proper facial esthetics and help people talk properly. Lower dentures are usually very difficult to restore proper function and comfort. Dental implants to stabilize the lower denture are a must!

Crowns

Crowns are used to strengthen and improve the shape, size or color of teeth. They can support broken or weak teeth or those with large fillings; provide a smooth, strong, attractively contoured surface for stained, misshapen or otherwise abnormal teeth; and aid in the implantation of bridges and other implants.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic procedures are performed to correct yellow, crooked, stained, injured, misshapen, missing or deformed teeth, improving the patient's smile as well as his or her self-confidence. Cosmetic dental procedures include whitening, porcelain veneers, tooth-colored fillings, dental implants and dentures.

Tooth Whitening

Bleaching products brighten teeth that have been stained or darkened by food, tobacco use, age or injury. There are a variety of in-office and take-home whitening products to reduce or eliminate such stains. In-office bleaching takes place over a series of one-hour appointments at the office. First, your teeth will be examined and cleaned to make sure there are no cavities, loose fillings, gum problems or other issues that may be exacerbated by the bleaching process. A custom-fit mouthtray will be made for your teeth. Then the bleaching gel is applied to your teeth in the tray.

Porcelain Laminates

Porcelain veneers, or laminates, are very thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the front sides of teeth to close gaps, cover stains and discolorations, and correct chipped or misshapen teeth to give you a bright, even, attractive smile.

Tooth-colored Fillings

The back teeth are noticeable when we talk and especially when we laugh. Seeing dark, unsightly areas of metal can detract from what otherwise might be a perfect set of teeth. Now there are fillings available that are specially designed to match the natural color of the tooth. These directly placed, bonded resin fillings can make a tooth look like new, whether they are used for small areas of decay or to replace current fillings.

Dental Hygiene & Exams

Regular brushing and flossing, combined with regular visits to the dentist for cleanings, are an essential part of keeping your mouth healthy and preventing decay and disease. Further, exams aid in the early detection of any developing problems, so you can be treated for any problems sooner and more effectively.
